— 2020

Training the Attorneys Who Serve Military Families

In 2020, Hilary served as a presenter for the Partners in PROMISE PELE clinic, training JAG attorneys on special education law and advocacy for military families — helping the legal professionals who advise service members better understand what an IEP fight actually looks like from the parent’s seat.

Partners in PROMISE is a national nonprofit founded in 2020 to protect the rights of military children in special education. Being invited to train its legal partners reflects the kind of hands-on, legally grounded advocacy Hilary brings to every family she works with.

— NATIONAL & LOCAL ADVOCACY

Contributor, Decoding Dyslexia Military

Decoding Dyslexia Military connects military-connected families navigating dyslexia across duty stations and services. As a contributor, Hilary helps bring the specific challenges of PCS moves and DoDEA/DoWEA schools into a national conversation that too often centers only civilian schools.

Parent Advocacy & Parent Group Leader

Beyond one-on-one advocacy, Hilary leads parent groups — creating a space where military families can compare notes, share what worked at their last duty station, and stop feeling like they’re figuring out special education alone from 1,500 miles away.

Seal Kids | Children of Valor

A national nonprofit dedicated to the academic success of children in Special Operations Forces families — including tutoring, learning disability support, and IEP advocacy.

— SPECIAL OPERATIONS FAMILIES

Advocate for Seal Kids | Children of Valor

Children of Valor (formerly SEALKIDS) supports the children of Navy SEALs and other Special Operations Forces families — kids whose parents’ high-tempo, high-risk deployment cycles bring a level of stress and instability that most schools aren’t built to recognize, let alone accommodate. As an advocate for the organization, Hilary helps connect these families to the IEP and 504 support their children need.

— WHY THIS WORK MATTERS

One family’s fight shouldn’t be the only way to learn the system

Hilary’s own child has severe dyslexia — that’s what put her at the IEP table in the first place. Training JAG attorneys, contributing to Decoding Dyslexia Military, leading parent groups, and advocating for Seal Kids | Children of Valor are all the same fight, just at a different scale: making sure other military families don’t have to learn everything the hard way.

— HER ADVOCACY ROLES

A recognized voice for military kids nationwide

From training the attorneys who advise service members to leading parent groups and supporting Special Operations families, Hilary’s advocacy spans the full landscape military families navigate.
